Subject Overview:
Studying Performing Arts allows pupils to develop their dramatic and production skills. They will gain an insight into the nature of the Performing Arts industry while experiencing the issues facing performing arts professionals. The course is a careful balance between practical dramatic performance, and learning how performances are managed, planned, staged and presented.
Subject Success:
- Since Performing Arts was introduced to the school, the subject has had 100% A* – B.
Course Content:
AS Units
Unit 1: Developing Skills and Repertoire
Pupils develop their drama skills and then apply them in a performance context.
Unit 2: Planning and Realising a Performing Arts Event
This unit requires pupils to interpret stimulus material to create a performing arts event.
A2 Units
Unit 1: Planning for Employment
This unit gives pupils the opportunity to develop their understanding of how to find work in their chosen discipline.
Unit 2: Planning and Realising a Performing Arts Event
Here, pupils research, promote, plan and perform an event for an audience and for an external examiner.
Assessment:
- AS Unit 1 and A2 Unit 1 are internally assessed and externally moderated.
- AS Unit 2 and A2 Unit 2 will be based on externally set pre-release stimulus material and assessed by a visiting external moderator.
Trips:
The course requires pupils to see live theatre performances; this includes trips to The Lyric, The MAC and Theatre at the Mill.
